Works by 12 international artists, curated by Thomas Nordanstad, exploring themes of human interconnectedness and what unites us under the same sky. The exhibition features sculpture, photography, painting and film.
The artists:
Rirkrit Tiravanija, Danylo Movchan, Bianca Maria Barmen, James Nachtwey, CM von Hausswolff, Leif Elggren, Owe Gustafson, Freddie Wadling, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Helga Wretman, Sam Samore, Martin Bryder, Patrick Brown.
The exhibition’s title is derived from conceptual artist Rirkrit Tiravanija's installation which asks, in part, the question of whether a universal culture exists in a world so suffused with political, religious and societal differences. These themes form the foundation of Borrby Studio's exhibition, with Tiravanija's wall piece serving as its central focus.
"The world balance has changed drastically, and in a kind of scary way. The war in Ukraine, tragedy in the Gaza Strip, the US under a despotic and irrational leader, right wing political tendencies, ecological disasters etc. These events seem to upend what many thought was a move toward a more coherent, inclusive and even more responsible place to live. Maybe all generations hope for a better world, but I really thought- for a while there- that the world was going to be a better place than when my peers came into it. I believe that it still is possible to turn things around. The world still has a lot going for it - if we can recognise that we are all in it together. If this exhibition says anything about it - and it does to me - it does so through the vision and reflection of several of this show's artists."
